The Farmhouse
The Farmhouse presents our vision for the Australian Style farmhouse. Inspired by the picturesque rural Australian landscape and materiality of the land our ideas form from the site and the people. A concept situated in the NSW woodlands located on the open plains of Mount White, The Farmhouse presents a visionary escapade from urban living into the ideal rural lifestyle. A fusion of rustic and modern Architecture inspired by the grandeur of American Style farmhouses and influenced by our experience and expertise in various Architectural styles the Farmhouse exemplifies our mastery in numerous architectural styles and experience in finer detailing allowing us to achieve outstanding results.
The colder tones of river rock and dark hardwoods balance the selection of lighter tone oaks and freeform stone cladding emanating warmth in the winter months while deflecting the heat in summer. Additionally, the choice of aged timbers imbue the rustic element to the design creating an aged but timeless look to the structure. The single storey design aims to lay low embracing the earth acting as a continuation of the land accompanied by the formation of the freeform sandstone clad walls bookended by each of the gable pavilions. The use of timber cladding adds a softer palette to the emboldened structure blending in with the trees and softening the long span facades.
The floor plan layout of the design seeks to capture light and obtain views from both the South and North facades gaining sunlight throughout the entire day. Each pavilion is distinguished by their allocated spaces focusing on private, open and entertainment functions of the home. The longspan structure stretches through the site emphasising the land and utilising every square metre of floor space possible. Accordingly, to garner further sunlight and break the long form structures, breezeways were included to allow for transitional spaces through every area of the home. The exterior spaces are the central feature of the design fitted with an outdoor feature ampitheatre and firepit fit for family gatherings, entertaining guests or relaxing underneath the stars.
It is our goal as a firm that specialises in bespoke Architecture to ensure that each of the homes we design suits the needs and character of our clients while doing what’s best for the land and locality. By embracing the Australian countryside we’ve created a design that represents the values of Australian culture focusing on family, mateship and land. As such our critical design thinking encompasses all aspects of the site and ideals of our clients reflecting the story and scope of each of our projects. In essence, the Farmhouse acts as our first initial concept of the ideal Australian style farmhouse. While only our first shot at farmhouse style designs we’ve left our own mark on a new frontier of Australian Architecture. As our firm continues to expand and reach new height so too does our skills and experience; it may be our first concept but it certainly won’t be our last.
